# ClipDesk > ClipDesk is a free, open-source (GPL-3.0) tool that turns widescreen screen recordings into ready-to-post 9:16 vertical videos for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and TikTok. The virtual camera follows your cursor, zooms on clicks, adds word-by-word captions and a camera bubble, and does it all on your own computer: nothing is uploaded. ClipDesk is aimed at developers, SaaS founders, marketers, teachers and course creators who record software demos, coding tutorials, product walkthroughs or presentations on a desktop and want to publish them as vertical short-form video without learning a video editor. A 16:9 classic layout is also available. - Platforms: Windows 10/11 64-bit desktop app (~128 MB, auto-updates); Chrome/Edge extension (Manifest V3, any desktop OS, ~105 KB, loaded unpacked); web app in any desktop Chromium browser. macOS and Linux desktop builds are not shipped yet. - Privacy: recording, rendering, captioning and encoding run locally. Videos are never uploaded. There is no telemetry. The only network use is a one-time ~40 MB download of the captions model, and licence-key checks for Pro. ## What it does - Camera follows the cursor: a 9:16 crop glides to wherever you work so small text stays readable on a phone. - Zoom on click: smooth zoom-in on every click. - Captions without an API key: on-device Whisper (Transformers.js / WebAssembly), word-by-word animated styles, .srt and .vtt import and export. Optional bring-your-own-key Groq or OpenAI Whisper. - Camera bubble: round webcam overlay with on-device background blur or replacement. - Clean voice: noise gate, voice EQ and compressor for laptop microphones. - Cut editor: remove any part of a take, with undo/redo; the original recording is never changed. - Layouts: Follow Cursor, Blurred Backdrop, Gradient Mesh, 16:9 Classic. - Live pen (telestrator) in the web app. ## Which version to choose - Windows app: records any screen or any app window (VS Code, Figma, a terminal), follows the cursor and zooms on clicks anywhere, captures system audio, hides its own controls from the video, saves to Videos/ClipDesk. - Chrome/Edge extension: records a browser tab with cursor follow and click zoom on that page. - Web app: nothing to install; cursor follow and click zoom only react while the pointer is over ClipDesk's own preview, so it is best for trying the product or for simple recordings. ## Pricing (Indian rupees, paid via Cashfree: UPI, cards, netbanking) - Free: 1080x1920 export, recordings up to 90 seconds, captions, camera bubble and trim included, ClipDesk watermark, no Pro templates. - Pro 30-day pass: INR 499 one-time. No watermark, unlimited recording length, all Pro templates, higher-quality export. Can be renewed. - Pro Lifetime: INR 2,999 one-time.
